Natural Hospitality

Finally got to go on my annual Buffalo River float trip a few days ago.  An earlier blog tells of family tradition and such.   Had a great time.  The fishing was OK - not outstanding.  The camp food was OK - not outstanding.  The weather - OK.  This time the trip was made special by a raccoon.  A thieving raccoon.

Our first sighting of the critter was just before dark.  2nd sighting was when we "heard something" and flashlights revealed that the animal was making off toward the woods with our coffee makings.  He dropped it on command and scurried back into the woods.  We ended up staying up into the mid hours of the morning watching the animal sneak around camp and find peanuts that we put out there for it.  Great evening.  Who needs TV?

If you have never ventured into the woods where your phone does not work, there is no light noise messing up your star gazing, no traffic noise, no reason to worry about "things" because you can't do anything about them from where you are at - then you have GOT to get out and give it a try.  There are still thieves in that world - but they will take a decoy of peanuts and leave your other stuff alone.
