One of the United States premier outdoor publications, Field and Stream, ranks Mountain Home, Arkansas, as the second-best fishing town in the country in its February 2008 issue. The magazine created its list based on each town’s year-round fishing opportunities, cost of living, fishing culture, outdoor-related economy and overall quality of life. To qualify, each town had to have a resident population of less than 100,000.
Arkansas Lakes “Off The Charts”

In naming Mountain Home , Norfork Lake and Bull Shoals Lake to its list, writer Kirk Deeter noted that not only is Mountain Home “consistently rated one of the best places to retire to in the country…it’s affordable, beautiful, safe and laid-back. Taxes are low, and the fishing is off the charts.” Both lakes are known for being great spots to fish for largemouth bass, stripers and walleyes.
World Class Fly-Fishing in Arkansas Rivers

The writer continued his profile of the Ozark Mountain Region town by noting that the area is also surrounded by both the White and North Fork Rivers that have served up their fair share of world-record brown trout and “hold hundred of 5-plus-pound brown trout per mile.”
In fact, fly fishers have some 100 miles of trout water combined for the two rivers. There are 5 designated trophy catch and release zones through the systems. Throughout the systems there are a number of shoals and good wadeable water that hold many fish. Fly fishing from a drifting boat is also very popular on both rivers.
