Buffalo National River at Pruitt, five miles south of Mystic Caverns, is ready to float!

By mysticcaverns
I had the opportunity to drive down from Mystic Caverns to the Pruitt access to the Buffalo National River this morning, and I was amazed at the beautiful color of the water.    The Redbuds are blooming, and the Dogwoods are starting to bloom. The sun is shining and river is beckoning. It's time to bring out the canoes! Do yourself a favor, take some time to visit the incredible Buffalo National River this Spring!

Coming soon - a Castle near you

What was I supposed to think?   I get a phone call a while back from a genuine sounding lady in France who tells me that she and her husband have bought some land in the Ozark Mountains and are building a medieval fortress using the same methods, architecture, etc that was available in the 13th century.  I did get my hopes up a little when she tells me that they have done this before. I think to myself that it sounds great, but really?  Can this be pulled off?  And what would be the attraction?  Who would really care? I visited the site yesterday.  My mouth is tired today from the crazy grin I had on my face from the moment that we pulled up to the site and got an idea of what is giong on here.  Unbelievable.  This is really a must see for anyone that is coming to or through Harrison, Lead Hill, Omaha, or for that matter, it is WELL worth the 1 hour drive from Mountain Home.  Branson is only about 40 miles north of the location. There will be pictures coming soon - but just like all of the great things you have seen ...

Silly Bear, BunksR4Kids, Part 1

By rita
A small sob escaped me as I went into the guesthouse bedroom to tidy up. Who wouldn't be touched by the sight of a small brown Teddy Bear tucked in ever so carefully underneath the covers of the top bunk bed? My own son's white-turned-gray creature came to mind.when he snuggled with it at about age two. The previous morning when I asked our clients how they slept, young William volunteered that he'd slept on the top bunk. His daddy seemed puzzled by that, obviously thinking his offspring began the night in the double beds. So it seemed only transparent that the bear I found the next day was William's. When I asked William about the creature, he had a blank look on his face until his older sister Elizabeth volunteered, “oh that's my bear.” “And what's his name?” I asked. She giggled. “Oh we just call him Silly.” Our new friends from McKinney, Texas included parents Eric and Diane, baby Caroline, and Sarah, Elizabeth, and William. (continue on part 2)

Silly Bear, BunksR4Kids Part 2

By rita
Mr. Mike took the 3 kids for a four-wheeler ride and invited William to “drive.” Poor William certainly had a rough time, as somehow the contraption went forward when he attempted reverse. They rode down to the campground where William's driver's training skills took them right into the edge of the river, complete with Mr. Mike's chuckles and squeals from the passengers. We won't soon forget our new Texas friends, especially their precious well-behaved children and of course their Silly bear. Blessings, Writer Gal Visit my blog:

White River… Trout Fishing… Castles???

By HisPlaceResort
Hello, everyone!  It never ceases to amaze me the varied and wonderful things the Ozarks has to offer…  Of course, we have the best trout fishing in the world here on the White River…  Then, we have our other bodies of water in the Twin Lakes area; Bull Shoals Lake, Lake Norfork, Buffalo River, North Fork River and Crooked Creek are all within 20 minutes of the resort. Everywhere our guests enjoy nature, the wildlife watching, the scenic drives and the antique shopping… But, I have a new one for you…  I don’t suppose that visiting a medieval fortress is something that comes to mind when you think of vacationing in the Ozarks, is it??? Well it didn’t for me either until I came across this today from some of my tourism friends on Facebook.  This would be just under 1 hour from His Place Resort — check it out! Why so Friendly?

Visitors and recent transfers to our little area of Arkansas often question why everyone is so friendly.  I do have to say that to me, we are getting much less friendly compared to 30 years or so ago when I was growing up in the area.  At that time, it was necessary to learn to drive with your hand in such a position that it was easy to wave from the top of the steering wheel.  I still drive with my hand there, and I frequently wave at cars coming my way - it's just that now there are more cars and I am not as likely to know the driver of each of them. Anyway - why is it that we are so happy and friendly.  My theory is that because our economy here in the White River basin area of the Ozarks is a bit suppressed compared to the rest of the world.  Most of us that live here do so because we WANT to live here.  Seldom is anyone transferred to our area by way of a company or corporation.  Few people are bound here because of profession of any sort.  Fact is, most any of us ...
